Getting set up

The speaker has to be on your wifi already — the next section covers how it gets there. Then: install the app, tap “Find speakers” (allow the Local Network prompt on iPhone), play a station, then press and hold a preset button to keep it. The step-by-step guide is on the home page.

Speaker not on your wifi yet?

Mast finds a system on your network but cannot put one there. That first step is done in the official Bose SoundTouch app, which is still available: App Store or Google Play. Plug the system in, open that app and choose to add a system — the system puts out a temporary “Bose SoundTouch” wifi network, the app walks your phone onto it, and then asks which network is yours and what its password is. Once the system is on your wifi, Mast takes over.

Speaker not found?

• Are the phone and speaker on the same wifi network (not guest wifi)?
• On iPhone: is the Local Network permission on?
• Is “client / AP isolation” off on your router? It stops devices from seeing each other.
• Is a VPN active on your phone? Turn it off for a moment.
• Is the speaker on and not in standby?
• Still nothing? Enter the IP address by hand. On iPhone this still needs the Local Network permission — iOS routes all local traffic through it. Denied it? Settings → Apps → Mast → Local Network.

A station won't play?

It probably only offers an HTTPS stream. The speaker's firmware can't fetch those; Mast automatically uses a station's plain-HTTP stream when one exists. A station without one can't play on a SoundTouch speaker — a firmware limitation, not an app bug.

Compatibility

Mast works with Bose SoundTouch systems that speak the local API, on iOS 15 or later and Android 7 or later. The speaker needs firmware 27.x — more on the home page.
